How Does Your Garden Grow
How Does Your Garden Grow? features 16 stories from children aged 6-9 years from a very remote community in Western Australia called Tjuntjuntjara. This book was inspired by an 11-year-old boy and is solely the work of children.
In 2011 Lachie Coman, a primary school student from Melbourne, organised a visit to the remote community Tjuntjuntjara with the assis- tance and support of his school principal and his father. To fund the trip, Lachie grew and sold vegetables from his school garden.
Lachie’s visit to the Tjuntjuntjara community provided the opportunity for him and the kids of the Spinifex Country to write, draw and share the sto- ries of their gardens, which come vividly and joyfully to life on the pages of How Does Your Garden Grow?
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is proud to publish this collection of children’s stories.
